Popular examinations

The most commonly taught examination courses at our school are Cambridge Main Suite, IELTS and Trinity SELT. Timetable and class hours

Examination classes usually take place in the afternoons and full-time or intensive students will take General English and weekly simulated exam tests as part of the total number of timetabled hours, in addition to examination preparation in order to provide a complete study experience. It is very important that in conjunction with practice of the examination, students continue to study all language skills and complete homework and self-study.

IELTS

Trinity SELT

Cambridge English examinations by the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations Board are an internationally recognised set of qualifications that you can use to officially show your English language level.

At Peartree we have been helping students to prepare for Cambridge Exams since the day we first opened our doors in 2005. We are an official Cambridge Exam Preparation Centre. The most popular exams are the Preliminary English Test (B1), First Certificate in English (B2) and Certificate in Advanced English (C1) however we also have experience of preparing students for exams at other levels. Our preparation courses operate on a ongoing basis from September to June and most lessons take place in the afternoons. Students can study part-time or full-time, by combining General English in the morning with examination preparation. The courses are taught by Senior Tutors with experience of tutoring students for these examinations.

The curriculum is based on the requirements of the exam and the class materials and course books offer students the chance to practice the skills that are required to successfully complete the various papers of the exams. This is essential examination training. To ensure that students are properly prepared for the exam, the course offers guidance on exam techniques and language support and introduces students to particular grammar and vocabulary that is relevant to the specific exams. Students are offered the possibility to take regular practice tests, which are monitored by the Academic Manager and which also provide a basis for feedback and areas of improvement as the exam date approaches. In addition to a course book students must also buy a workbook to study at home and gain extra practice.

Experienced IELTS test takers and native speakers…

If you have taken the examination already but need to improve specific scores in certain areas, for example writing, or if you are a native speaker who has some difficulty achieving high scores in one area of the exam we will offer you private tuition. In our experience of teaching this exam, we have discovered that many IELTS candidates, especially those aiming for very high scores, will have very individual areas of weakness that need to be identified by a Senior Teacher, corrected and then practiced until the desired score is reached. This is best done on a one to one basis. We will also give you ongoing support and encouragement to persist with this difficult examination until you reach your goal.

Test your level

When you take an IELTS examination you are not given any feedback on your scores. This can be frustrating. If you are looking to have a diagnostic assessment of your current score or readiness to take the examination, we can provide you with a full mock test and feedback. This will give you the opportunity to assess your own level without registering to take a full examination.
